Wow! Our Eva just turned one on the 26th. It’s hard to believe that she’s already reached this milestone.
The tiny baby that we held in our arms, so tiny you felt like you could break her by just breathing too hard…is getting so big. To our eyes she’s still so small, but when we see her legs dangling off our laps when she’s laying there or how tiny her old clothes are we realize that she’s not that tiny little bundle we brought home so proudly from the hospital. It’s so fun to watch her develop. To see her learn how to wave, and toddle around (with our help) on her fat little feet, to get excited when she sees her cousins come running up to her in church, to watch her light up and reach for us when we’ve been gone all day at a wedding…it’s all so fun.
But, of course, it’s sad to see our little girl grow up. It’s hard to explain why it’s hard, but it is. With each new day her independence is growing and she’s moving closer and closer to when she won’t need us anymore. When she was first born we were everything to her; her shelter, her comfort, food, warmth, everything. She needs us a little less now. And that makes this mommy and daddy kinda sad to see her gaining even a teeny bit of independence.
But so happy too. Because we get to see more and more of who she is and what she’ll be. And that’s very exciting!
It’s been fun reminiscing the last few days leading up to her birthday. It seems so long ago when we sat in the hospital, our new little family of three, and just…sat. And stared at Eva. Almost a different world. But then again it seems like just a few days ago.
We decided to share some of those early photos with you all.
And then some of the newest ones of her. Hopefully you’ll see what we mean when we say we’re so happy, and a little sad, to see her grow up.
